HERBAL MEDICINE

Chinese Herbal Medicine is a medical system which uses herbs according to the theories and principles of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to treat various illness and diseases.

Chinese herbal medicine is the most important therapeutic component of Traditional Chinese Medicine.  There are about 300 commonly used herbs in Chinese herbal medicine and normally they are used in a form of formula in which a number of herbs are combined. Selection of herbs and composition of formulas are based on a correct TCM diagnosis and strictly under the direction of TCM theories and principles. The herbs and formulas used in Chinese herbal medicine are usually with a long history of clinical use in China. Combined use of herbs helps to maximise the therapeutic effects and minimise side effects of herbal medicines.

Chinese herbal medicine is capable of treating a wide range of conditions, from common cold to various chronic diseases such as chronic diarrhoea, osteoarthritis, some chronic infectious conditions, chronic fatigue and some gynecological conditions etc.

Typically, one batch of medicinals is prepared as a decoction of about 9 to 18 substances. There are two forms of herbs used in ProAcu Clinic, the raw herbs are dried natural herbs which are generally for external use, or can be boiled and consumed; while herbal extracts are herbal decoctions that have been condensed into a granular or powdered form. The herbal extracts can be easily disolved in water and consumed.
